Sports
related injuries
require specialized care to promote optimum
healing.
Whether you are a weekend
jogger or tennis player, a professional soccer player or marathon runner, a
child or senior citizen, or even a musician or actress, trauma to the
muscles and joints can limit or prevent your participation in these
activities.
To provide proper diagnosis
and prevent future injuries, we have created OsteoMedSport.

Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a form
of manual medicine focused on the removal of tension and strains from all
bodily tissues. In doing so, it enhances the function of the body and the
reduction of pain.
Osteo recognizes that
the human body is a complex mechanism of independent systems. It strives to
reestablish a harmonious relationship between these various systems and to
normalize their optimal functions.
Our Osteopaths are
concerned with total body health. They believe that the body’s skeletal
structures and organ systems are of equal importance to normal health, and
that relationship between the two is mutually inter-dependant.
Osteo is not a
universal panacea for all ills and does not claim to be. Rather, it is a
unique system of both diagnosis and treatment that can be immensely helpful
to active people with problems that originate or are reflected in the
musculoskeletal system of the body.
What
to expect in a treatment session?
An
osteopathic assessment involves a detailed patient history and complete
physical examination. The osteopath treats the patient through a series of
therapeutic adjustments which are painless and often very relaxing. This
consists of manual and palpatory tests, to identify the origin of tension
and blockages in tissues, joints and organs. Particular attention is given
to the function and mobility of many diverse structures such as bones,
joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and viscera.
A variety of manual
techniques are used to eliminate the cause of a problem and restore proper
physiological mobility.
Typical problems seen
by an osteopath include:
Acute & chronic ligamentous sprains
Musculo-tendinous strains
Neck & back pain
Sacro-iliac joint/ pelvic dysfunctions
Muscle imbalances, overuse…
Sports
injury care
Osteopathic
sports medicine is based on a sound understanding of anatomy, physiology &
biomechanical inter-relationships and their affects on the bodies of active
people and athletes of all calibers. The sports medicine component places
emphasis on a rapid return and maximization of human physical performance.
Osteopathy
is appropriate for the treatment of most biomechanical disorders. Any
physically active person with acute or chronic pain can benefit from
osteopathic care.
Athletes in sports
where falls and overuse syndromes frequently occur are excellent candidates
for osteopathy. Most musculoskeletal and postural imbalances are
successfully treated regardless of the age of the patient of duration of the
problem. Unique to osteopathy is the manual treatment of visceral and
cranial dysfunctions. These approaches are often the missing key when
conventional therapies have failed or unable to retain their corrections.
Osteopathy; Treating the cause of acute and
chronic musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Athletic Therapy
Athletic Therapy includes the
assessment, prevention, immediate care, and reconditioning of
musculoskeletal injuries.
Prevention includes musculoskeletal and postural
evaluation, equipment selection, fitting and repair, warm-up, conditioning
programs, prophylactic or supportive taping, and adapting to the activity
environment and facilities.
Our Certified Athletic
Therapists assess injuries and conditions, utilize contemporary
rehabilitative techniques, therapeutic modalities, soft tissue mobilization,
physical reconditioning, and supportive strapping procedures to promote an
environment conducive to optimal healing in preparing the individual for
safe reintegration into an active lifestyle.
Massage Therapy
Our massage therapists focus
on the normalization of soft tissues affected by stress, injury, and illness
through the use of manual techniques that improve circulation, enhance
muscular relaxation, relieve pain, reduce stress, enhance immune function,
to promote health and well-being. Massage therapists specialize in the use
and application of therapeutic massage techniques.
Reconditioning
Pain management through the
use of specific exercises; core stability; strengthening and flexibility
programs; and activity-specific conditioning.
